Who are we?

The Seattle Special Education PTA is a parent, teacher, student association (PTSA) serving students with disabilities, their parents and teachers throughout the Seattle School District. Members are Seattle area parents, educators, friends of and students with disabilities.

We strive to be a racially and socio-economically inclusive group that is representative of the students we serve. Like any typical PTA/PTSA, we are a self-governing membership association whose purpose is to serve the needs of its members. We are affiliated with both the National and Washington State PTAs.

Why a Special Ed. PTSA?

In order to advocate more effectively for all students (grades K-12) with disabilities in the Seattle School District, a group of parents started this Special Education PTSA in Spring 2006. We work in partnership with local school-based PTA/PTSAs that seek to meet the needs of families involved in special education. At times the special needs of disabled students transcend services provided by their local schools. The Seattle Special Ed. PTSA strives to improve programs at both the building and district levels.

Our Mission is to Navigate, Improve, and Build.

To assist families of students with disabilities as they navigate the educational system.

To partner with parents and educators as we advocate for improvements in the special education system.

To build bridges between the general and special education communities in order to bring increased educational resources and opportunities for all students.
